    If Your House Has a Room That Has Never Been Warm

    That room is the reason this page exists.

    Central systems heat an average. They do not fix a bedroom over an unheated garage, a converted attic, a three season porch someone finished in 1988, or an addition hanging off the back of a 1925 colonial. A ducted system pushed harder just overheats the rest of the house trying to reach the one room that is losing.

    Zoned Mitsubishi systems put a head in that room with its own thermostat and its own capacity. The cold room stops being a cold room.

    What "-13F" Actually Means, and What It Does Not

    Hyper-Heating INVERTER systems are rated for heating operation down to -13F. That is a real number and it is better than most of the market. Here is the honest framing that most contractors skip.

    Every air source heat pump, from every manufacturer, loses capacity as the outdoor temperature drops. The question is never whether capacity falls. It is whether the system still has enough capacity left at your design temperature to hold your house. Connecticut's winter design temperature sits near 7 degrees, so a system rated to -13F has real margin here, but that margin only matters if the system was sized against a load calculation for your actual house.

    An undersized Hyper-Heating system in a leaky house will disappoint you at 10 degrees. A properly sized one in the same house will not. The equipment rating is a ceiling, not a promise. This is why CellSun runs a Manual J on every project instead of matching the tonnage of whatever is there now.

    What Older Connecticut Homes Actually Need

    No duct chases, and no good place to add them

    Hartford County's older housing stock, concentrated in Hartford, West Hartford and Wethersfield, includes a large share of homes built before 1940. That era of construction has no duct chases and no practical path to add them without cutting into finished space. Zoned ductless was built for exactly this housing.

    Historic district review

    Homes inside Connecticut's local historic districts, including Old Wethersfield and the Main Street district in Glastonbury, can face design review on exterior equipment placement and line set routing. CellSun handles that submission as part of permitting rather than discovering it after the equipment arrives.

    The panel is the real constraint

    Electrical panel capacity is the quiet limit on electrifying Central Connecticut's older homes. Many pre 1960 houses are still on a 100 amp service, and a multi zone system plus an EV charger plus a future battery does not fit. CellSun evaluates the panel at assessment rather than discovering it on install day, and CellSun is licensed to do the electrical work.

    Energize CT's residential Energy Optimization incentive pays $1,500 per ton, up to $10,000 in combined incentives, at the rate in effect September 1 through December 31, 2026. The rate was $1,000 per ton from January through August and moved up on September 1. On a four ton project that is $2,000 more than the same job was worth in August.

    Program Requirements

    • Residential Eversource or United Illuminating electric customer
    • Equipment on the Energize CT Heat Pump Qualified Product List
    • Installer in the Energize Connecticut Heat Pump Installer Network
    • Full displacement of the existing heating system for the full rate. Partial displacement is a separate path requiring qualified integrated controls.
    • Post installation inspections are random and mandatory. Failing to complete one forfeits the rebate.

    There is no federal tax credit on a 2026 heat pump installation. Section 25C ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025.

    A licensed HVAC installation partner, using technicians who hold the Connecticut trade license the work requires. CellSun designs the system, pulls the permits, does the electrical work, handles the rebate, commissions the result and manages the project. We say this plainly because you should know who is standing in your basement and who to call afterward. The answer to the second one is Cameron.

    It is a fair objection and we will not pretend otherwise. There are ducted, ceiling cassette and floor mounted options that address it, and in most homes we use a mix rather than putting a wall head in the living room. We will walk the house and show you exactly where each unit goes before you sign anything.

    No. Zoning follows the load, not the floor plan. Open areas often take one head, and small rooms that are already comfortable may need nothing at all. The load calculation tells us, not a rule of thumb.

    For an older Connecticut home with no ductwork and cold rooms, usually yes, because the alternative is not a cheaper heat pump, it is adding ductwork. For a well ducted 1990s home with no comfort complaints, usually no, and we will show you that comparison rather than steer you up the ladder.

    Rebates follow the equipment and the installation, not the brand. Qualifying models appear on the Energize CT Heat Pump Qualified Product List, and the installation has to be performed by a contractor in the Heat Pump Installer Network. We confirm both before you sign.

    Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US covers residential systems with a 10 year limited warranty on both parts and the compressor when the product is registered within 90 days of installation. Without registration the coverage is shorter, so we handle registration at install rather than leaving it to you. The 12 year coverage you may see advertised is tied to the manufacturer's Diamond Contractor program, which we do not participate in, and we would rather tell you that than let you assume it applies.

    Sometimes, and it depends on the outdoor unit selected at the start. If you may finish a basement or an attic later, tell us at assessment. Sizing the outdoor unit for a future zone costs very little now and a great deal later.

    A properly sized Hyper-Heating system carries the house. If your home's envelope is poor enough that it will not, we will tell you before you buy, and we will tell you what the envelope work costs, because selling you equipment that will disappoint you is a bad trade for both of us.
