Suffield is the strongest heat pump conversion market in our Hartford County service area, for a reason most homeowners already know. Natural gas here runs only along East Street, Bridge Street, part of Mountain Road, and the Route 75 light industrial area, and the town's own plan states that appreciable expansion is not expected. Most of Suffield heats with oil or propane.

The sewer boundary follows Route 75 and east. Septic and well review here goes to the North Central District Health Department rather than the Farmington Valley district that covers the towns to the west.

• Hastings Hill, along a three-quarter-mile stretch of Hill Street, has been a local historic district since 1963, so exterior work there requires a certificate of appropriateness that the rest of Suffield does not.

The Town of Suffield Building Department at 83 Mountain Road issues building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits, applies a per-thousand fee schedule, and requires forty-eight hours notice for inspections. Septic and private well review goes to the North Central District Health Department. Properties in the Hastings Hill or Main Street historic districts need a certificate of appropriateness first.
